ALS - Hug

I love this video- it just makes me smile! My father died of ALS ten years ago and I sure do miss his hugs. (Pause my music on the side before playing the video)

Brrr...it's cold outside...

This is what it looks like outside our front door...it makes me cold just looking at it. We sure have gotten our fair share of 'coldness' and snow here in good ol' Wisconsin (not 'Illinois' anymore...). It is pretty though...

Also- a quick thank you to my Mom and my stepfather, Bruce, for the gift of money they gave us for Christmas. We were able to buy a mirror for over our fireplace mantel! It is a HUGE mirror! It is about five feet long and three feet tall. It looks great- much better in person!

(This picture does not do it justice...)

Wordless Wednesday...my 'cowboy'.

Taking a break from chasing Indians and bad guys (he's a 'sheriff' cowboy you know...) to relax by the fire...

Just a few thoughts...

Why is it that you are hungrier in the winter? I swear I gain like five pounds every winter...I just can't help myself! I love to eat when it's cold and also when I'm stressed. Which is often in the dark, dreary months of winter. I also have been lovin' my coffee lately too. I have been keeping are heat set at 64 to 68 (at the most) degrees and I'm used to 72 to 74 degrees. I have been drinking allot of hot drinks- coffee, hot chocolate, tea, ect.

Also- painting spindles is not fun and not easy. I discovered that today...yeah...

That's all I have for now...

More prayer needed...

My nephew, Luke, is in the PICU right now. His mother (my sister) took him in yesterday for his four month check up and found out he has RSV and pneumonia. She has taken him in before (once to the ER and another time to the doctor) and both times he was sent home. They never did the RSV test on him. Well, he had gotten worse and when she took him in yesterday he was admitted immediately. He was actually driven to the hospital by ambulance. As a mother I know that must've been pretty scary for Courtnie. I haven't talked to Courtnie yet today, but as of last night he was still receiving breathing treatments, an IV (for dehydration), and his breathing and heart rate were being monitored. I feel bad for Luke but I also feel for Courtnie too. It is NOT fun being in the hospital with a sick little one ( I know first hand...) and it is also NOT fun spending your days alone. I hope to get up there tonight and see Luke and Courtnie. It's about a two hour drive but I know how much it meant to me when people came to visit Noah in the hospital. So I am going to make the long trek- I just hope Tim will get back at a decent time today. I don't want to be out on the roads too late tonight. Please keep little Luke in your prayers as his body recovers. My life has been crazy...why does everything always happen at once? What's next?!

Speaking of the things happening in my life- my Grandpa's funeral went well. I got some of my crying out 'before' we had to sing so I was able to sing the song without any problems. It was a day of pondering the sweet memories we all hold of our dear Grandfather. He was the 'center' of our family (extended). Grandma was doing pretty well. She does understand that he isn't here anymore. She forgets everyday, but when someone reminds her (only because she'll say he walked out on her) she starts sobbing and it all comes back to her. It was sad to see her crying...it made me cry. She is so frail and mentally feeble. I fear she won't be here as long as we'd like her to be either. My dear grandparents...oh how I miss them both...

Little Luke Daniel...isn't he just too cute for words?

Prayer...

My Grandfather passed away this morning. He has been sick for awhile and recently started having problems with a blockage in his colon (due to cancer). His Hospice nurse had said that if it didn't resolve itself quickly it could possibly take him within a matter of days. It did. I would like to ask if you could be praying for my mom and her two sisters and brother as they they proceed with funeral details. I'm sad but I am also relieved that my dear Grandpa doesn't have to suffer anymore. He has been in and out of the hospital for about five years now and I think he was just plain wore out. Also pray for my grandma as she is not mentally well and my grandfather was the one primarily taking care of her. I don't even know if she quit understands what is going on. They (grandpa and grandma) have been living with my aunt for the last week or so and I'm assuming my aunt will continue caring for my grandma. Did I mention my aunt is also battling stage four breast cancer? She is a pretty strong woman though and luckily she seems to be handling the chemo great. Oh yeah, and she has ten children (yes, you read that right...)- seven of which are still at home! Anyway, please keep my family in your prayers as we go through this 'transitional' stage of our life. I will keep you posted!

I love you Grandpa! I pray you are spending your eternity in Heaven safe in the arms of our Lord!

Just a quick post to say...

This is what happens when you're a baby trying to look down the stairs to see what the cable guy is doing and you slip and fall down the whole flight of basement stairs. You bust your lip open (luckily that was all...) and get blood in your mommies hair (just cleaned and blow-dried of course...)!

I'm back!

Finally- I have my internet up and running again-the cable guy just left! I have much to post about but I want to write when I have more time. The move went well. It was cold (like 15 degrees cold...) and we have WAY too much stuff, but all in all it went okay. I'm liking my new house. It is gradually becoming a cozy, cute home. I have been painstakingly working to get it 'just' right. I can't believe all the boxes I have gone through! I'm telling you- we are going to be getting rid of allot of 'stuff' before we move again. Anyway, I will blog more later and hopefully post some pictures. Stay tuned!

I'll be offline for a while... =(

I just wanted to let you all know that I will not have internet access as of tomorrow morning. I hope to get our internet hooked up as soon as possible at the new place. I 'm going to try to get someone in next week. I'm hoping I won't have to be 'offline' for too long. I'm going to miss all of you while I'm gone. Hopefully I'll have plenty of pictures to post when I come back! Take care!

Wordless Wednesday- Playing with Boxes!

(Am 'I' ever 'wordless'?)
They have literally been playing with these for two days straight! What is it with kids and boxes?! Hey, it keeps them busy while I'm packing!

No time to post...busy,busy,busy!

Unfortunately, my week is almost totally FULL! I have absolutely no time whatsoever to blog! =( I'm kinda bummed about it, but what do ya' do? We move this weekend and I have about ummm...well...95% of our packing to do still. I want to move- I just don't like the whole process of moving. Especially the packing. We also have our annual ladies Christmas party tonight and I had to make three dozen cookies for that. We have Awana Wednesday, a rehearsal for our homeschool groups Christmas program Thursday, and the Christmas program Friday (I have to make another three dozen cookies for it). Saturday there is a Christmas party we were invited to and we would really like to go . In order for us to do so we will need to be done moving by Saturday afternoon. Yeah, we have a pretty busy schedule this week...and get this- Tim stills wants me to so school with Jonathan! We did get it done today, but it wasn't easy. With all I have to do this week I just don't know how many days we'll get in. Hmmm...I really am wondering if I'll even get everything done that needs to get done...

The Nightmare of 'All' Nightmares!

I had the most horrific dream ever last night! It was one of those where the whole time your telling yourself to wake up! My nightmare was about me almost literally drowning in piles of unwashed laundry. It was terrible. I was throwing load after load of laundry into the washer and dryer and more kept appearing- right before my eyes! I couldn't keep up and I had no idea where all the other laundry was coming from, but I recognized all the clothing so I knew it had to be all ours. I know this may not seem like a big deal to some of you but for me- it IS! This week and last I just can't seem to stay on top of our laundry. We have either been living out of our laundry baskets or picking clothes off the couch (they are clean and folded just not put away). Of course, unlike my dream (a.k.a. nightmare) I don't have hundreds of loads to do but in all honesty, it feels like I do some days! I don't know why this is an area of weakness for me (except when I'm pregnant- then laundry is all I want to do- very strange). I wish I felt differently about it, but I don't. I feel I get it all put away and then BAM there is 4-6 loads waiting for my attention again! I wholeheartedly believe that your laundry almost doubles each time you have another child. I remember when Tim and I first got married and I was only doing laundry for the two of us. I would do laundry once a week and have about 1 to 1 1/2 laundry baskets full. If I did that now I would probably easily have 5 to 7 FULL baskets (approximately 10 to 12 loads- give or take). What is everyones secret to keeping up on laundry? Am I the only one who struggles with this? I was just wondering...well, I gotta go, I have to run errands today and well...ummm...do some laundry?!

Wordless Wednesday...this is not about 'painting'...oops...

Why do they always fall asleep when you 'don't' want them to?

Tackle it Tuesday- PAINTING!

Tim and I have been busily painting the new house. We so far have 'tackled' and finished the dining room and living room. The pictures below are of the living room. We have allot more 'tackling' to do! We still have to finish painting the hall and the master bedroom...ugh. Maybe I'll have those pictures for next week.

The top pictures are 'before' we painted it was a pukey, orange color...yuck! The bottom are 'after'- we did a more neutral tan (?) color. We like it allot- it gives the room a very warm feeling. (Excuse the terrible picture quality)

Crazy week ahead...

I wanted to post and let you all know that I might be a little scarce this week. We have a very busy next couple weeks ahead of us as we prepare to move the 8th of December (next Saturday). Tim and I have been busy painting the new house. The landlord had been painting but wasn't making as much head way as he would've liked so Tim and I stepped in and have been helping him out. Saturday we painted the living room and dining room. We then returned yesterday after church and painted all the trim in the living and dining rooms. That was a chore! My little tip for today is this- NEVER paint over your wood trim or baseboard to begin with. You'll have to keep painting every couple years. Too much maintenance people! Plus, why cover beautiful, dark, cherry woodwork anyway- it SO cheapens it! Ugh...people. Anyway, since we have been helping out so much our landlord told us we could move in the first part of December and only pay a half a months rent for December. This was a BIG answer to prayer since we are having to pay a full months rent for the apartment even if we aren't living here for the three out of the four weeks in December. They (the management company) are being VERY difficult to work with- actually you can't work with them! So in the next two weeks I have to pack, fill nail holes in, finish painting the 'new' (to us...) house, clean the 'new' house, clean this house, and get the carpets cleaned in both places. So much to do...so little time to do it! I just can't wait for this whole moving thing to be done with! So needless to say, I might not be posting as much as usual. I will be posting a 'Tackle it Tuesday' and a 'Wordless Wednesday' though. I think I can handle that! =) I hope you all have a splendid and fantabulous week!

Boys will be boys...

I was shocked to discover this afternoon that my 13 1/2 month old son (a.k.a the 'baby') was using a homemade mega block 'gun' (big brother Jonathan made it) as well...a gun! It was pretty funny- he included the sound effects and everything! I always forget just how soon my boys start turning everything and anything in to a gun. It's pretty amazing! My boys currently don't own a toy gun- they broke all the ones they have had previously. So, they turn anything
in to a makeshift gun and Noah has already caught on! Sigh...my baby is growing up...

Here is Noah and Jonathan with 'the gun'~

*Did you notice the truck in Jonathan's makeshift holster? Yep, that was Jonathan's gun...*

Wordless Wednesday- 'Sisters'

Me and my beautiful sisters (and my nephew Luke...)!

Tackle it Tuesday...

Remember this picture from last weeks 'tackle'? Well, I completed my task of tackling it 'this' week...it was pretty bad, but the boys helped me out quit a bit.

This is what the toy box looked like after throwing away one very LARGE garbage bag FULL (pretty much stuffed to the max...) of broken (or just old and never played with)toys. Awwww...it feels so good to clean out the house...

Now, I need to start 'tackling' nail holes in our walls (from pictures). We are moving within a month and the management company is pretty picky about nail holes and such. So in order for them 'not' to deduct it from our deposit I'm going to tackle filling the holes in myself...fun...fun. Yeah, good times! Which reminds me, I need to start thinking about packing too...

I'm tired and need to go to bed...

So, I would LOVE to give this nice post about something really significant but to be quit honest with you I haven't any creative juices running through my mind today. In fact I really think I just need to go back to bed and stay there for several hours. I can't though. I have three children that insist on getting up at the crack of dawn each and every morning- except for Sundays and I'm always up before seven anyways so I don't get to take advantage of it. Blah...that's how I feel. I wish I was more energetic about Mondays and starting school up again. I don't know if it's the weather but I can only think of my cozy, inviting bed. Sigh...I wish I was a morning person- like my mother. I would do my 'Monday Meal Plan' for you today, but alas, I'm too tired to even do that. It takes too much thinking. I know- it's pretty bad. Hmmm...maybe I'm pregnant. HAH! I'm so just kidding- I am NOT pregnant (I hope...). Seriously, I'm not and hopefully will not be for another year or so. Is that terrible that I don't want another baby right now? Well...I don't think it is- I have my hands FULL with the three littles I have right now! Anyway, my mind is thinking very random thoughts right now and it could be dangerous if I keep writing so I guess I'll end this post. I'm heading off to do my devotions- I need the Lord's help to get through the day. Maybe I'll get a nap in...

I don't have a title for this... =)

I don't know what to make of this, but I thought it was cool that my blog got rated at a 'genius' reading level. Hmmm...anyway, just a fun little thingy (yeah, 'cause 'that's' genius phrasing...) to do while I'm home with nothing else better to do. ;)

Update on the 'Battle' against eczema!

I just wanted to update you all on Noah's ordeal with eczema as of late. I must say I was getting a bit concerned because it just seemed like it kept getting worse and worse. It was bringing back allot of bad memories. Well, as of today it has gotten SO much better! This momma couldn't be happier! I started using just plain old Aquaphor yesterday and I can already see a HUGE improvement! I've been trying to bathe him less (sounds gross but the water makes it worse) and if I do bathe him I make it very quick. Yesterday I pretty much washed his hair and got him out- it took about 1 1/2 minutes tops! I didn't even use soap because I was afraid it would irritate it even more. Hey, he's a baby- he doesn't stink! Speaking of skin irritants would anyone know why it seems like Noah gets more diaper rash with cloth diapers? He never got diaper rashes in disposables! I have currently stopped using his cloth diapers because I was (am) concentrating so hard on getting his rash (or eczema) cleared up that I was afraid the cloth diapers would irritate it more. So any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Have I told you just how AWESOME you all are?! You really do help me with the little tidbits of useful information you give me! Thanks so much!

I WON!!!

Wa-ho! I won, I won, I won...! I have almost NEVER won anything in my whole entire life! This so SO awesome! I won the game for the 'biggest' baby prize at the cyber shower for Classy Mommy! I was almost sure that (knowing 'my' luck) there would be someone out there that has had a bigger baby than me. Believe it or not, I have known ladies (or more like a lady) that had bigger babies than I. The lady I knew had a 14 pounder...YIKES! I can't even imagine...YOUCH! Anyway, I'm happy, ecstatic and feel like running through my house screaming, "I WON, I WON, NANNA, NANNA, NANNA!"! Just because that sounds like fun...I know I'm weird!

Wordless Wednesday- Genetics...

I never thought Noah (he is SO his daddy...) looked like me until I saw our newborn pictures side by side. What do you think- like mother like son? =)

Tackle it Tuesday...

Okay, so I have a very unique 'Tackle it Tuesday' and it involves my baby, Noah. He has recently broken out in eczema again! Yuck...I am NOT happy about it! He had broken out REALLY bad with it when he was hospitalized and they were forcing formula down his throat. I told the doctor I really thought it was allergies, but of course, he didn't believe me. So he got worse and worse and worse (DUMB doctor...)- his head had actually started oozing pus and than it would crust over and the dumb nurse would scrap that off thinking it was cradle cap! Sorry about the name calling but they were really stupid there. Let's just say I was very thrilled when they transfered us to another (better) hospital. Anyway, I have been trying to pinpoint exactly why he has gotten it again. At first I thought it was the antibiotics he was on for an ear infection. He had started breaking out right about the same time I started him on the antibiotics. It has been a week now though since he has been off them and he still has the eczema. So I thought maybe it was the soy milk I had switched him to- so I stopped giving him soy and switched him back to rice milk. Still no change after a week of rice milk other than soy milk. Hmmm...(scratching my head...)what else, what else, what else? Maybe it's the homemade laundry detergent I started using? Nope- I've gone back to our previous detergent (Gain) and he STILL has the eczema! I ordered some cream that worked with Jonathan when he had it as an infant and it doesn't seem to be doing much for Noah. We've gone through almost the whole jar! So yes, (as you have probably figured) my tackle is the fight against eczema! I would really appreciate any suggestions anyone might have to help with eczema. I hate when anything is wrong with Noah- it just makes me nervous because of his previous 'issues'. I'm afraid of having to re-live what happened when he was 3 months old- SO not fun, and yet it was minor compared to what some parents have had to go through! Anyway here is a picture of my sweet baby...man, I love this kid!

Cyber shower...wa-ho!

Yippee! There is another cyber shower going on! This one is for Colleen over at Classy Mommy. Here are my entries!
Game #1 ~ You are supposed to tell how long and your 'first' labor and delivery were. The quickest wins! I won't win this one being my first was 29 grueling hours long!

Game #2~ Post a picture of one of your belly bumps. The best belly bump picture wins!
This 'belly bump' picture is when I was pregnant with Jonathan (my first)- it was taken a whole month before he was born...it didn't look like he would be that big...but believe me, looks 'can' be deceiving sometimes! My fundal height got to a whopping 50 cm! Yeah...I looked pretty big...

I thought I'd throw this one in just because...it was taken when I was pregnant with my second (Austin). It was 2 days before I had him. Can you believe there was over ten pounds of baby in there?

Game #3~ You are supposed to post a picture of your baby's nursery. The best nursery wins! I don't have any pictures of our nurseries with any of our babies so, I'll have to sit this one out. =(

Game #4~ Tell the size of your biggest baby. The biggest baby wins! Well, my Jonathan was a fairly large baby. He weighed in at a whopping 11 lbs 8 oz. and he measured 23 1/2 inches long! Thus, the 29 hour labor...and yes, I had him the all natural way...with some help from some forceps and the doctor. It was pretty intense for a first baby...something I NEVER want to re-live! Here are some pictures to show the enormity of this child. (The red marks on his cheeks are from the forceps. They went away within a few days.) By the way, my second baby weighed in at 10 lbs 4 oz...I guess I must just have big babies...

Here is one with him and his 6 month old cousin. They were about the same size...we thought that was pretty amusing! =P

Well, I really, really, really hope I win something! Wouldn't that be way cool?! =)

Thursday, November 8, 2007

Wow...even I'm impressed!

Okay, so I really thought I was failing when it came to teaching Jonathan to read. I guess I wasn't spending enough time with him to 'see' if he really was taking in anything I was teaching him. So this afternoon while the other two boys took their naps I decided to sit down with Jonathan and see if he could read 'anything'. I was pleasantly surprised! He can read and in fact, he read two whole stories to me! Okay, so they were tiny, little stories but still, he read them- all by himself! WOW! How cool is this (or that...however you want to look at it...)- I'm actually teaching my own child to read! I feel pretty awesome right about now! I have to say- that was one totally, cool mommy moment for me. Kind of like how you feel when your child finally masters potty training...yep...that's one awesome feeling! So now I have decided (until tomorrow...) that homeschooling really isn't all that bad and to tell you the truth, I think I might actually be starting to 'like' it?! We'll see how tomorrow's school day goes...

My up and coming accomplished reader...okay...well maybe he will be in another year or two... =)

Eyes...

Can you tell who's who?
(Okay, give me a break...I didn't have anything else to post about...) =)
